I'm a doctoral candidate in the sociology department at the University of Michigan. I research social aspects of health, technology, the body, knowledge, and deviance. I also really love teaching.
Right now I’m completing my dissertation: an investigation of the Internet’s impact on the illness experience. Through virtual ethnography, interviews, and archival analysis at a large online illness community, the project illuminates and analyzes the effects of patients’ newfound ability to collaborate and commiserate in online social space.
I have a strong belief in the ability of college education to transform lives, and my goal is to offer superlative, technology-driven pedagogy in every class. I've taught courses at the University of Michigan and at Colorado College, and I'm hoping to be hired by an institution that allows me to continue to balance teaching and research.
