Drew Foster

I'm a doctoral candidate in the sociology department at the University of Michigan. I research social aspects of the body, health, and expertise. I also really love teaching.

Right now I’m completing my dissertation: an investigation of the production of medical knowledge among lay people in online social spaces. I am conducting a virtual ethnography, including offline interviews, of two prominent online health communities. The project seeks to extend research about expertise and knowledge by clarifying how non-experts collaboratively produce expert-like knowledge.
